This art might look a little different to you, if you’ve been here on my art journey with me for a while. I purchased a new brush set for Procreate (my iPad drawing app) and have been experimenting with a softer style again.

I’ll be sure to share my timelapse with you later! It was a good one to show trial and error with… this softer style takes me a lot longer. I’m often juggling multiple projects at once as an author doing my own art, so one of the reasons I liked my other style was how quick and comfortable I’d gotten with it. I’ll keep practicing my softer lines, I like how it turned out. What do you think?

Here is a behind-the-scenes look at the digital illustration process for the cover of my upcoming MM romance book, The Night the Sea Kept Me.

The video was a little long, so I sped it up and chopped it a bit, but I tried to leave a bit from every drawing stage for you to see! I love getting questions, and I’m happy to help if you’re also illustrating. I’ve learned a lot from the community here, and love paying it forward. Feel free to comment or drop me a DM any time!

As you can see, I added the billion layers I used for the actual cover in Canva at the end. 🤣💕 I do everything myself, and as a jack-of-all-trades I consider myself a master of none. Even so… adding more flourish to a book cover was an exciting little experiment! I’m proud of how it came out.
